Bill overview
This bill, the Protecting Infrastructure Investments for Rural America Act, aims to improve access to federal transportation grants for rural communities. It changes the definition of ‘rural area’ to include communities with a population of 30,000 or less, in addition to existing definitions. The bill also prioritizes funding for small communities (population 5,000 or less) by requiring a maximum 90% federal cost-share for projects in these areas and allocating at least 5% of program funds for their benefit. It also allows for greater flexibility in grant amounts and ensures projects benefit local communities.
