Bill overview
This bill, the Ultrasound Informed Consent Act, requires abortion providers to offer women an ultrasound and the opportunity to view it before undergoing an abortion. Before an abortion can proceed, the provider must perform an ultrasound, explain what it shows, display the images for the woman to see, and provide a detailed medical description of the ultrasound. There are exceptions for situations where a woman’s life is endangered by a medical condition related to the pregnancy, and she can choose not to view the ultrasound images without penalty.
