Bill overview
The Border Security Investment Act proposes to increase border security funding by imposing a 37% fee on electronic remittances sent to specific countries with high rates of unlawful immigration. Half of the collected fees will be deposited into a trust fund to reimburse border states for expenses related to border security enforcement, while the other half will be used for technology, physical barriers, and Border Patrol agent salaries. If the trust funds exceed $50 billion, any excess will be permanently rescinded and used for deficit reduction.
