Bill overview
This bill, the Comparison of Sustainable Transportation Act (COST Act), directs the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to analyze the costs associated with transitioning the federal government’s vehicle fleet to electric vehicles and flex-fuel ethanol vehicles. It also requires the Department of Energy to conduct a lifecycle emissions analysis comparing the environmental impact of gasoline vehicles, E85 vehicles, and battery electric vehicles. The findings of these analyses will be publicly released to inform future transportation policy decisions.
