Bill overview
The SCREEN Act aims to limit the use of U.S. government funds for producing films that may be subject to censorship or altered to comply with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Specifically, it restricts the Department of State from providing technical support or access to its assets for film production unless the company submits a list of films with potentially sensitive content to Chinese officials and agrees not to alter the film based on their requests. The bill also requires the State Department to report annually to Congress on films associated with U.S. companies that have received government support and may have been altered for Chinese audiences.
