Bill overview
The Pathways to Policing Act authorizes grants to states, local governments, and law enforcement agencies to help them recruit new officers. These grants can be used for marketing and recruitment campaigns, as well as for ‘Pathways to Policing’ programs that support individuals facing barriers to entering law enforcement, such as those with nontraditional backgrounds or lacking prior experience. The bill also prioritizes applicants seeking to recruit from underrepresented communities and those willing to serve in the communities they represent. Finally, it directs the Attorney General to develop a nationwide marketing and recruitment campaign for law enforcement careers.
