Bill overview
This bill creates a grant program to help state, local, and Tribal law enforcement and corrections agencies provide mental health crisis response training to their officers. The goal is to improve officers’ ability to handle situations involving individuals experiencing mental health crises, reduce harm to both officers and the public, and address the increasing number of these calls related to substance use disorders. The program will fund training programs developed in collaboration with healthcare professionals and individuals with lived experience of mental illness.
