Bill overview
This bill aims to improve the security of prescription drugs, particularly controlled substances, by requiring a unique, machine-readable identifier to be added to each pill. These identifiers, called ‘physical chemical identifiers,’ will be incorporated into the drug product itself and will help prevent counterfeiting and ensure the authenticity of medications. The changes will apply to drugs manufactured starting five years after the bill’s enactment, strengthening the pharmaceutical supply chain.
