Bill overview
This bill, the STAND Against Emerging Opioids Act, aims to combat the opioid crisis by scheduling tianeptine, a drug sometimes marketed as an antidepressant, as a Schedule III controlled substance. Currently, tianeptine’s scheduling was unclear, and this legislation clarifies its status under federal law. By scheduling tianeptine, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will have greater authority to regulate its production, distribution, and use. The law will take effect 90 days after the bill is enacted.
