Bill overview
This bill proposes to eliminate the production of the one-cent coin to save taxpayer money. Congress believes that enough pennies have already been made and that further production is unnecessary for the next decade. The bill would temporarily halt the minting of new pennies, while still providing coins to collectors. Existing pennies will remain legal tender.
