Bill overview
The Protecting Election Administration from Interference Act of 2025 aims to strengthen the security and preservation of federal election records. It extends the retention period for election records, including electronic records and equipment, to 22 months after each federal election. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency will develop guidelines for record preservation and security, and the Department of Justice will have the authority to inspect and copy these records while ensuring they are not disclosed. Furthermore, the bill increases criminal penalties for intentionally tampering with election records and introduces new penalties for intimidating voters during the election process.
