Bill overview
The Preventing Armed Groups from Engaging in Radicalism or the PAGER Act (H.R. 1844) restricts U.S. financial support to the Lebanese Armed Forces until certain conditions are met regarding Hezbollah’s role in Lebanon. Specifically, the government must recognize Hezbollah as an illegitimate political party, Hezbollah’s presence must be eliminated, and Lebanese security forces must demonstrate control over areas previously held by Hezbollah. The bill also limits aid to the United Nations Development Programme and requires a report on Hezbollah and Iranian influence within the Lebanese government. Finally, it designates a specific organization as a global terrorist.
