Bill overview
This bill aims to ensure that federal healthcare funding for urban Indian organizations is fully matched, similar to how it’s matched for other healthcare providers. Currently, the federal government’s matching rate for Medicaid services provided by these organizations is not 100%. The Urban Indian Health Parity Act would increase this matching rate to 100%, providing more resources for healthcare services offered by these organizations. This would help improve access to healthcare for Native Americans living in urban areas.
Key provisions
- Increases the Federal Medical Assistance Percentage (FMAP) to 100% for services provided by urban Indian organizations.
- Applies the 100% FMAP to grants and contracts between the Indian Health Service and urban Indian organizations.
- Specifically addresses Section 1905(b) of the Social Security Act.
- Defines ‘urban Indian organization’ based on the definition in the Indian Health Care Improvement Act.
