Bill overview
This bill, the Eliminating Leftover Expenses for Campaigns from Taxpayers (ELECT) Act of 2025, aims to reduce federal spending and the national deficit by ending taxpayer financing of presidential campaigns. Specifically, it terminates the option for taxpayers to donate $3 of their income tax liability to the Presidential Election Campaign Fund and requires any remaining funds in that fund to be transferred to the general fund of the Treasury to help reduce the deficit. The changes take effect after December 31, 2024.
