Bill overview
This bill, the Closing the De Minimis Loophole Act, ends the current system that allows for free entry of goods under $800 from many countries. It immediately eliminates de minimis treatment for goods originating in China, and phases it out for all other countries within 120 days. During this transition period, the Treasury Department must create new rules and procedures to ensure proper duty collection and enforcement.
