Bill overview
The HEAL Act aims to improve travel benefits for veterans receiving care from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). It increases the mileage reimbursement rate for veterans traveling to and from VA facilities for vocational rehabilitation, counseling, or medical treatment, aligning it with the rate for privately owned vehicles. The bill also prohibits the VA from requiring a deductible for these trips and allows veterans service organizations and agencies to be reimbursed for transportation costs incurred on behalf of veterans.
