Bill overview
This bill, the No Funding for Lawless Jurisdictions Act, changes how federal grant money is distributed through the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act. It restricts funding to states or local governments with policies that limit cash bail or allow for pretrial release on personal recognizance for felony convictions. Additionally, it limits funding to urbanized areas that have reduced law enforcement budgets in the previous year unless due to a general budget shortfall. The bill aims to incentivize states and localities to maintain adequate funding for law enforcement and ensure appropriate bail practices.
