Bill overview
The RESET Act prohibits covered social media platforms from allowing individuals under 16 to create or maintain accounts. It requires platforms to identify and terminate existing accounts belonging to minors, delete their personal data, and provide access to that data upon request for up to 90 days after account termination. The Federal Trade Commission will enforce the law, and states can also take legal action to protect residents’ interests if they believe a platform is violating the act.
