Bill overview
The Helping Our Heroes Act aims to provide a tax deduction for volunteer firefighters and emergency medical personnel. It proposes that each hour of qualified service be treated as a $20 charitable contribution, up to a maximum of 300 hours per year. This bill also allows individuals who don't itemize deductions to claim a portion of the deduction typically reserved for charitable contributions, specifically for services provided by these volunteers. The deduction will be adjusted for inflation starting in 2026.
