Bill overview
This bill directs the Coast Guard to develop a strategy for designing and building a new icebreaker specifically for the Great Lakes. The Coast Guard will also conduct a pilot program to assess the effectiveness of its existing icebreaking fleet in maintaining waterways open. Furthermore, the bill mandates the Coast Guard to report on the costs associated with meeting icebreaking standards and provides for briefings to Congress on these costs.
