Bill overview
This bill, the Military in Law Enforcement Accountability Act, aims to limit the involvement of the Department of Defense and other federal law enforcement agencies in supporting civilian law enforcement activities. It requires the President to obtain congressional notification and justification before providing such support, and establishes a 30-day limit on the support, subject to joint congressional approval. The bill also prohibits military personnel from simultaneously serving in both the military and civilian law enforcement roles, and expands requirements for military assistance to civil authorities. Finally, it creates a private right of action for those harmed by violations of the Act.
