Bill overview
This bill, the Mobilizing Against Sanctuary Cities Act, aims to limit federal funding to cities and states that don't fully cooperate with federal immigration enforcement efforts. Specifically, it targets jurisdictions that fail to comply with the REAL ID Act (8 U.S.C. 1373) or don't follow requests from Homeland Security regarding detainer notices. If a jurisdiction is found to be non-compliant, it would be barred from receiving federal financial assistance for at least one year until the Attorney General confirms they meet federal requirements. The bill also allows members of Congress to request reports on a jurisdiction’s compliance.
