Bill overview
The Lower Drug Costs for Families Act aims to reduce prescription drug costs for Medicare beneficiaries and taxpayers. It extends requirements for drug manufacturers to provide rebates to the government for brand-name drugs to the commercial market, where these drugs are also available through private health insurance plans. The bill also changes the base year used to calculate these rebates from 2021 to 2016, and modifies how billing units are determined for rebate calculations. It also impacts Part D drugs by adjusting how average manufacturer prices are calculated.
