Bill overview
This bill, the Defending Ukraine’s Territorial Integrity Act, declares that the United States does not recognize Russia’s claims over Ukrainian territories occupied by its forces, including Crimea and the other oblasts mentioned. It prohibits U.S. government funding from being used to support central governments that recognize Russia’s control over these areas or actively support Russian annexation. The bill also establishes a process for the Secretary of State to publish a list of governments subject to this restriction and to potentially waive the restriction if it’s deemed to be in the U.S. national interest.
