Bill overview
This bill reauthorizes an existing provision that allows vehicles powered by alternative fuels or considered ‘clean vehicles’ to use High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes, even if they have only one occupant. Currently, this exemption was set to expire on September 30, 2025, but this bill extends it until September 30, 2031. The goal is to encourage the use of environmentally friendly vehicles and reduce traffic congestion by allowing them access to these lanes. It does not create any new requirements for vehicles or HOV lane operation.
