Bill overview
This bill, the Empty Lots to Housing Act, aims to help create more affordable housing by allowing the U.S. government to transfer land acquired with assistance to local governments, nonprofits, or other developers for the construction of housing units near public transportation. If a recipient of government assistance no longer needs the land, they can transfer it to a qualified entity, subject to certain conditions and Secretary approval. The bill also establishes requirements for the housing developed on the transferred land to prioritize affordability for low- and very-low-income families.
