Bill overview
The Farmers to Families Act amends the Child Nutrition Act to allow recipients of SNAP and WIC benefits to use those funds – including cash-value benefits and coupons – to purchase fresh, local foods from designated agricultural entities like farmers’ markets, community supported agriculture programs, and food hubs. The bill establishes a system for accepting these benefits electronically through qualified payment devices and creates a Technical Assistance Center to support farmers and market operators in implementing these changes. It also expands the Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program for WIC participants and provides administrative support for WIC programs.
