Bill overview
The SNAP Benefits Fairness Act of 2025 aims to make SNAP benefits more equitable by eliminating a limit on the amount of housing expenses that can be deducted when determining eligibility. Currently, households have a cap on how much they can deduct for rent, mortgage, utilities, and other housing costs. This bill would allow households to deduct all allowable housing expenses exceeding 50% of their income, after other deductions, when calculating their net income for SNAP purposes. This change would potentially increase the amount of SNAP benefits some eligible households receive.
