Bill overview
The PRICE Act aims to reduce the energy consumption of data centers in the United States by requiring them to generate all of their own electricity. Initially, data centers must source 75% of their power from clean energy sources starting in 2035, increasing to 100% by 2040. The bill establishes penalties for non-compliance and directs the Department of Energy to create a process for enforcing these requirements. This legislation seeks to promote the use of renewable energy and decrease the environmental impact of data centers.
