Bill overview
This bill, the CFPB Dual Mandate and Economic Analysis Act, updates the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) purpose to include promoting competition and consumer choice in the financial markets without government interference. It establishes an Office of Economic Analysis within the CFPB, which will review proposed regulations to assess their impact on consumers, price, and access to credit. The office will also periodically evaluate existing regulations to determine their effectiveness and report its findings, and require the CFPB to identify the problem a rule is addressing and the metrics used to measure its success, including changes in consumer access and cost.
