Bill overview
This bill extends the protections of the District of Columbia Human Rights Act to employees of the District of Columbia courts and the District of Columbia Public Defender Service. Currently, these entities were not fully covered under the Act. The bill clarifies that these employees are considered ‘employees’ and ‘employers’ under the Human Rights Act, ensuring they have recourse to file complaints for discrimination. It also clarifies that complaints against the courts and Public Defender Service are handled through existing Human Rights Act procedures, rather than separate agency procedures.
