Bill overview
The Employee Paycheck and Small Business Protection Act aims to bolster financial stability by temporarily expanding deposit insurance coverage. It allows the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) to fully insure the net amount in ‘covered transaction accounts’ – primarily those used for regular payments – up to $100 million per depositor/member. The bill also establishes a temporary program (the ‘Temporary Transaction Account Guarantee Program’) to provide additional insurance for these accounts, subject to Treasury and Federal Reserve approval, and includes provisions for data collection and analysis to inform program implementation and oversight. Finally, it extends existing fund restoration plans.
