The Fairness in Veterans’ Education Act aims to improve how the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) repays service members and veterans who paid to keep their Montgomery GI Bill benefits active while also enrolling in the Post-9/11 GI Bill. Currently, the VA had to make repayments based on the last monthly housing stipend received. This bill removes that restriction, allowing the VA to repay contributions sooner, potentially before a veteran’s education benefits are fully used. It simplifies the repayment process for eligible veterans.
