Overview
The Fairness in Veterans’ Education Act aims to improve how the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) repays service members and veterans who paid to keep their Montgomery GI Bill benefits active while also pursuing Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits. Currently, repayment amounts were limited to those receiving monthly stipends. This bill removes the requirement that repayments be tied to the last monthly housing stipend, allowing for broader repayment eligibility. The VA will now be required to make these repayments before a veteran’s education assistance entitlement expires.
