Bill overview
This bill, the Equality in the Halls of Congress Act, allows the territories and commonwealths of the United States – including American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands – to contribute statues to the National Statuary Hall Collection in Congress. Currently, only states are eligible to provide statues for this collection. The bill amends existing law to explicitly include these territories and commonwealths in the definition of ‘State’ for the purpose of this collection. It also grants the Architect of the Capitol the authority to acquire these statues and implement the changes.
