Bill overview
The GOSAFE Act aims to regulate gas-operated semi-automatic firearms and large-capacity ammunition feeding devices. It prohibits the import, sale, manufacture, transfer, and possession of these items, as well as modifications that turn non-prohibited firearms into prohibited ones. The bill also establishes a process for the Attorney General to create a list of prohibited firearms and provides funding for states to implement buy-back programs for surrendered firearms. Finally, it introduces new penalties for violating these regulations and establishes a framework for the approval of firearm designs to prevent their conversion into prohibited weapons.
