Bill overview
The Farmers’ Assistance and Immediate Disaster Relief Act (FAIDRA) amends the Federal Crop Insurance Act to improve the process for determining indemnity payments related to hurricane damage under the Hurricane Insurance Protection-Wind Index (HIP–WI) endorsement. Specifically, it directs the Secretary of Agriculture to prioritize the use of the IBTrACS data set, but allows for the use of an alternative data set compiled by a certified weather station if the IBTrACS data is incomplete due to damage to weather stations or data sources. The bill also requires the Secretary to make the alternative data set publicly available and issue implementing regulations.
