Bill overview
This bill, the Protecting Hospitals from Disaster Act of 2026, aims to help hospitals better prepare for and respond to extreme weather events. It does this by directing the Medicare and Medicaid Services to provide financial support to quality improvement organizations (QIOs). These QIOs will then assist facility-based providers, such as hospitals and nursing homes, in mitigating risks to both the facilities and their patients during disasters. The bill also establishes a specific funding allocation for this support.
