Bill overview
The Resilient Coasts and Estuaries Act of 2025 aims to bolster the nation’s coastal and estuarine ecosystems by establishing a dedicated program to protect and restore vulnerable areas. It primarily does this by creating a Coastal and Estuarine Resilience and Restoration Program within the Department of Commerce, allowing the Secretary to coordinate with various entities – including state and local governments, research reserves, and non-governmental organizations – to prioritize conservation, restoration, and climate change mitigation efforts. The bill also expands the National Estuarine Research Reserve System, designating new reserves and strengthening their research and educational capabilities.
