Bill overview
This bill, the BOP Release Card ID Act of 2025, requires the Bureau of Prisons to provide photo identification release cards to U.S. citizens being released from federal prison. These cards would meet minimum standards similar to those for REAL ID cards and would be valid for at least 18 months. The bill also aims to facilitate the acceptance of these cards for identification purposes when accessing federal programs and services, as well as for entering federal buildings. Finally, it directs the Attorney General to provide guidance to states regarding the implementation of this program.
