Bill overview
The Transportation Freedom Act aims to bolster the U.S. automobile manufacturing industry by reducing taxes on auto companies and repealing certain environmental regulations. It establishes a new tax deduction for wages paid to domestic auto workers and allows companies to adjust their financial statements based on these wages. Critically, the bill nullifies recent EPA and NHTSA rules regarding greenhouse gas emissions standards and CAFE standards for vehicles, replacing them with new standards that are economically practicable and technologically feasible, but may not require electric vehicle production. It also eliminates California’s authority to set stricter vehicle emissions standards.
