Bill overview
The ABODE Act aims to increase the availability of affordable housing by directing the Department of Housing and Urban Development to hold a grant competition. This competition will provide funding to organizations – including universities, nonprofits, and mission-driven developers – to build or rehabilitate single- and multi-family homes targeted towards households earning 50% or less of the area median income. The grants will prioritize projects that incorporate energy efficiency, resilience, and accessibility features, and the Department will study the long-term cost savings associated with these improvements.
