Bill overview
This bill, the SUSHI Act, directs the Commerce Department to create a standardized method for determining the origin of seafood. The goal is to help law enforcement combat illegal fishing practices, which can harm marine ecosystems and the seafood industry. The method will be based on chemical analysis and designed to be easily used by enforcement officials, including in testing prepared seafood dishes like sushi and ceviche.
