Bill overview
The Modernizing EIA Tracking and Reporting to Increase Consistency Act (METRIC Act) directs the Department of Energy to study and modernize how the United States measures and accounts for energy use. Specifically, it mandates a comprehensive study on existing energy indicators, considering alternatives to better reflect energy transitions and efficiency. The bill also requires the Energy Information Administration to develop and report on ‘incident energy,’ which represents the total energy entering an energy conversion process, and to make this data publicly available. This aims to improve the accuracy and transparency of energy statistics for policymaking and research.
