Bill overview
This bill creates a new office within the Department of Agriculture, called the Office of the Special Investigator for Competition Matters, to strengthen enforcement of the Packers and Stockyards Act. The office will investigate and prosecute violations of the act, which aims to ensure fair competition and protect farmers, ranchers, consumers, and the meat and poultry industry. It will also serve as a key point of contact for the Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Department of Homeland Security regarding food and agricultural trade practices and security.
