Bill overview
The Counter Drone State and Local Defender Act authorizes federal agencies, specifically the FAA, to take actions to detect and mitigate threats posed by unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) to law enforcement activities and critical infrastructure. It allows State, local, Tribal, and Territorial law enforcement agencies to acquire and deploy counter-UAS systems, subject to FAA oversight and certain restrictions. The bill also establishes pilot programs to assess the efficacy of these systems and provides for permanent authorization for these agencies to utilize them, with a specific focus on the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
