Bill overview
This bill, the Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act, directs the Department of Labor to create a new occupational safety and health standard for healthcare and social service employers. The standard will require covered employers to develop and implement comprehensive workplace violence prevention plans, investigate incidents promptly, and provide relevant training to employees. Specifically, hospitals and skilled nursing facilities will be required to comply with this standard as a condition of Medicare participation. The bill also includes provisions for amending the Social Security Act to apply the standard to certain facilities receiving Medicare funds.
