Bill overview
The New Opportunities for Business Ownership and Self-Sufficiency Act aims to expand access to self-employment assistance programs for unemployed individuals. It increases the number of participants allowed in these programs from 5% to 10% of regular unemployment recipients and removes the requirement that participants be predicted to exhaust their unemployment benefits. The bill also requires participants to regularly certify their business development activities and allows for flexibility in how they meet self-employment assistance requirements, such as through business plans and feasibility studies.
