Bill overview
The Tipped Income Protection and Improvement Act of 2026 (TIP Improvement Act) aims to improve the wages and protections for tipped workers. It adjusts the minimum wage for tipped employees to be the standard minimum wage, allowing them to keep all of their tips. The bill also permanently expands and clarifies the qualified tip deduction, increasing the deduction limit and adding safeguards to prevent fraud and abuse. Finally, it requires taxpayers to include their TIN on returns claiming the deduction and treats automatic gratuities as qualified tips for certain hospitality and service professions.
