Bill overview
The Unauthorized Spending Accountability Act aims to reduce funding for certain federal programs that lack ongoing authorization. It establishes a three-year cycle of budget reductions for these ‘unauthorized’ programs, starting in fiscal year 2026. Programs identified by the Congressional Budget Office as lacking authorization will see their budgets reduced by 10% in the year following authorization expiration, increasing to 15% in subsequent years. After three years of reductions, these programs will be terminated unless specifically reauthorized with a limited three-year authorization.
