Bill overview
The Freedom from Improper Regulation and Enforcement Act (FIRE Act) aims to prevent the federal government and state/local governments from restricting firearm magazines based on their capacity. Specifically, it prohibits federal agencies from regulating magazine capacity and declares any state or local laws doing so to be invalid. The bill also defines ‘firearm magazine’ and ‘capacity’ for legal clarity. It will take effect 30 days after the bill’s passage.
